If you follow my Facebook, you have heard that our journey to Narok was not as planned. It was not unexpected either. Simply put, our first flight out of Seattle was 2 hours late, including a 15-minute delay as we were No. 8 for departure. Thus began an adventure we have experienced all too often over the years. Missed connections, changing flights, and hours sitting in an airport. This time it was 10 hours. And we missed going to Amsterdam, even if only never leaving the airport. I was fortunate enough to look out the window as we left Paris, and I can say I saw the Eiffel Tower. And I was tempted by very expensive macarons, which I didn’t eat.

Arrival in Nairobi was not without drama as well. First, three planes arrived at the same time, so immigration/passport control was SLOW. Then one of our bags was in a different pile at another carousel. The lateness of the flight (that flight was 18 minutes late) and the time it took to get out of the airport, and the fact that our drivers arrived 45 minutes before our scheduled landing meant they were parked too long in their spot. Can you say boot? So add 20 or 30 minutes and 6000 shillings ($50 or so), and we were finally on our way. We stopped briefly at a coffee shop for chai tea/coffee. And we added some breakfast as well. Then on the road to Narok, 3 to 4 hours away. And no issues. That was Saturday, about noon. The rest of Saturday, we hung out in our motel room and began recovering from our 30-hour trip to Kenya.
Sunday morning, we went to church. I preached on letting God take care of the things that steal our joy, our hope, and our peace. The service was 3 hours, and we had a great time of worship. Then it was dinner with our guests at the motel and more recovery. I laid down to take a nap and 4:30. At 6:30, I got up, put on my pjs, and went to bed. I stayed there until 5:30 the next morning.

As I write, this it is Monday evening. Our teaching time of marriage started today. We were to be picked up between 9 and 9:30. We got to the church about teatime, so that took a while. But we finally got started and spent the day, until 4:00, teaching on marriage. The teaching was well received. Tomorrow morning, Tuesday, I believe, we continue with marriage, add some things about children, and conclude the subject. Then, depending on time, we will either start or wait until Wednesday, our second subjects. I will be teaching the men about spiritual growth and the things that hinder it. Sherry is going to talk about the encounters Jesus had with women.
Continue to pray for us. We finish teaching on Thursday at noon and head to the airport for another adventure. We have a project on Saturday morning in Portland and return home Saturday afternoon. Thanks for all the help making this trip possible. Tomorrow’s teaching on children will be a bit of a challenge to Kenya culture so lift that as well. God bless and good night.
