Just a quick note about the week just finished. There are times when plans simply don’t go as planned. After the inspection of the clinic by the government and our own looking around, we were preparing to do some work at Rushangarumwe clinic. There was painting to be done, materials for electricians and others to be delivered. We went home and put things in motion. But the weather had other plans
You see, “the rains came down and the floods came up,” to quote a kids’ church song. The road to the clinic isn’t very good and crosses a river. We learned early in the week the water was over the bridge we had to cross. The mud was slick and, in a word, unsafe. Each morning, we were greeted with rain. We listened to the rain at night and an occasional clap of lightening. We chose to stay in town and not make the trip.
We had a second clinic we need to go visit, Dine, but the road to it is about the same. And the priority was Rushangarumwe. So, we did other errands. The clerks at the local hardware store go to know us well. As a matter of fact, one remembered us from last year and all the paint to bought for Dine. We bought paint for the ceiling, and windowsills, and around other places. We rounded up electrical supplies as we have to move the distribution panel. Patients can have access and that was a no-no.

Life was not without excitement. We were ready to go morning devotions at Hippo Valley office and found we had a flat tire. The spare was flat, and there was no jack if we had a good spare. We now have a tire pump that attaches to the battery, a nice jack, and I met some very nice men at what would be equivalent to a Les Schwab.

And we found a baby scale for the clinic. We started at the post office. Seemed like an unlikely place to find medical equipment. Behind the post office, same building actually, there are a series of shops. This one is tiny and specializes in medical equipment. We got the scale on Thursday and are going back tomorrow to get a couple of regular scales for adults.

The week ended today with worship. I love to be with my church here in Chiredzi. I preached and Sherry talked to the youth group after church. The group is a little older than you might think, but it is large and excited about serving Jesus. Tomorrow, we have some more things to get or order. Tuesday or Wednesday we are assured that Rushangarumwe is in our future and Dine next week. God is good and work will get done.
